Mandate and function

1. Implement basic researches on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification technology;

2. Eshtablish scientific ground for setting up marine development strategy, policies and regulations on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification technology;

3. Draft and submit to Director of IMHEN for approval and implementation of long term and five year scientific and technology research plans on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification, and implement the approved plans;

4. Participate in setting up development plans on the science and technology concerning marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification;

5. Implement or participate in the implementation of scientific and technology research projects and programmes on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification with the cooperation of foreign or international organizations, as assigned by the IMHEN;

6. Carry out scientific and technology transfer on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification;

7. Participate in the postgraduate education and upgrading working capacity on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification;

8. Undertake appraisal reviews of the results of research projects and programs on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification as assigned by the IMHEN;

9. Research for eshtablishing scientific ground for technical manuals, guidelines on technical standard and cost of works relating to marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification;

10. Participate in the activities relating to scientific and technology information such as scientific meeting, conference, seminar, compilation, editing and publishing;

11. Carry out field survey on marine meteorology, hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification for research and application;

12. Research on marine forecast;

13. Undertake scientific and technology service in marine and coastal meteorology,  hydrology and environment, ocean – atmosphere interaction and weather modification, as assigned by the IMHEN.
