Mandate and functions

IMHEN is a functional organization for science under jurisdiction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with mandates for research and development of science and technology on meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, water resources and environment.

The functions and tasks of IMHEN include, but not necessarily limited to:

-Undertake studies of scientific foundation serving for the formulation of development strategy, legal system and policies on meteorology, hydrology and environment; participate in the formulation of science development strategy of the Ministry.

-Perform postgraduate education programmes, including doctoral programme, on meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, water resources and environment

-Organize the implementation of the programmes, projects and thematic studies on science and technology, survey and investigation on meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, water resources and environment as delegated by the Ministry.

-Undertake studies for the applied advanced science and technology; development and transfer of meteorological, hydrological and environmental technologies.

-Take part in the international organizations; implement the international cooperation programmes/projects on meteorology, hydrology and environment as assigned by the Ministry.

-Provide consulting services on meteorology, hydrology and environment in line with laws.
